چکیده

In vivo multiple spin echoes (MSE) images of bone marrow in trabecular bone were obtained for the first time on a clinical 1.5 T scanner. Despite of a reduced sensitivity of the MSE trabecular bone images with respect to the cerebral matter ones, it is possible to observe some features in the MSE trabecular bone images that may be useful in the diagnosis of osteopenic states. Two different CRAZED-type MSE imaging sequences based on spin-echo and EPI imaging modalities were applied in phantom and in vivo. Preliminary experimental results indicate that EPI imaging readout seems to conceal the MSE contrast correlated with pore dimension in porous media. However it is still possible to detect anisotropy effects related to the bone structure in MSE-EPI images. Some strategies are suggested to optimize the quality of MSE trabecular bone images. © 2002 Elsevier Science Inc. All rights reserved.

The influence of Gd-DTPA on T1-weighted (T1W) proton MR spectra has been investigated in 19 patients with histologically verified low (n 13) or high-grade (n 6) gliomas. Repeat measurements were performed on 9 patients (7 low-grade and 2 high-grade), with 28 examinations performed in total. Comparison of spectra obtained before and after 0.2 mmol/kg Gd-DTPA showed contrast agent induced broaden...

Functional MRI (fMRI) can detect blood oxygenation level dependent (BOLD) hemodynamic responses secondary to neuronal activity. The most commonly used method for detecting fMRI signals is the gradient-echo echo-planar imaging (EPI) technique because of its sensitivity and speed. However, it is generally believed that a significant portion of these signals arises from large veins, with additiona...

A semi-automated method is described for segmenting the cerebellum from T1-weighted 3-dimensional magnetic resonance imaging scans of adult controls and patients. The method relies on prior knowledge involving a user-defined template as a guide to aid the segmentation of the cerebellum. As the gray and white matter intensity distribution in the cerebellum has a complex pattern, texture informat...

There is considerable similarity between proton density-weighted (PDw) and T2-weighted (T2w) images acquired by dual-contrast fast spin-echo (FSE) sequences. The similarity manifests itself in image space as consistency between the phases of PDw and T2w images and in k-space as correspondence between PDw and T2w k-space data. A method for motion artifact reduction for dual-contrast FSE imaging ...

This paper presents MRI segmentation techniques to differentiate abnormal and normal tissues in Ophthalmology using fuzzy clustering algorithms. Applying the best-known fuzzy c-means (FCM) clustering algorithm, a newly proposed algorithm, called an alternative fuzzy c-mean (AFCM), was used for MRI segmentation in Ophthalmology. These unsupervised segmentation algorithms can help Ophthalmologist...
